The new year heralds a great list of new restaurants for Londoners to explore, from the wallet-friendly options of Street Feast’s newest market to high-end dining from our favourite Masterchef judge, Monica Galetti. Here’s where to head for January’s finest food.
The brainchild of Berbere in Italy, Radio Alice is a brand-new pizza place for Hoxton Square. It’s setting its pizza apart from the rest by using a dough made with mother yeast and ancient stoneground floor, which is cooked and sliced before toppings are added.
A Tel Aviv and Bauhaus inspired restaurant from chef Eran Tibi opens this month in Southwark. “The essence of Israeli food comes from its soul, from generations of different cultures from the Middle East to Europe who picked the best of each dish and added their own twist,” says Tibi.
El Pastór is a taqueria, serving tacos with tortillas made from scratch in house every day. From the Hart Brothers and Crispin Somerville, the name is taken from the mighty ‘al pastor’ taco, ubiquitous on the streets of Mexico City and enjoyed immensely by Sam and Crispin when they ran nightclub El Colmillo there during the 90s and 00s.
For buns filled with intriguing ingredients like nanny goat with warm spices and hot sauce, head to Brick Lane for this late-night bar and restaurant. For pudding, you can tuck into ‘bombs’, bite-sized deep fried balls in a variety of flavours.
We’re big fans of The Culpepper – this is a new restaurant from the same team, now open in Clerkenwell. There’ll be a similar menu approach and a rooftop space opening soon too.

MasterChef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti and her husband David will open Mere in London’s Fitzrovia this January. It’ll be the couple’s first restaurant; menus will be seasonal with a mixture of both Galetti’s lighter take on the classics and new dishes.
