Choosing a venue to hire in South London

South London is arguably one of the best places on earth to find unique and spectacular venues to throw a party or host a conference. Being in the heart of a metropolis cloaked in history, South London has a unique combination of class and creativity when it comes to bespoke events.

The Top Venues in South London

Take the Imperial War Museum, for example. This is a space like no other when it comes to venues in London. Your guests can dine under dramatically suspended fighter planes. Exhibits on issues such as the wars in Syria and Afghanistan to World War One certainly make for compelling conversation starters. If you want a more intimate venue, you can discuss the can discuss the museum’s curiosities in the Tea Room or the Orpen Boardroom.

However, if dancing all night was more what you had in mind, rather than discussing the ins and outs of history, may we suggest Electric Brixton? This celebrated London multi-purpose venue is famed for hosting some of the world’s biggest DJs but it also has a wealth of history. The venue fuses together old and new. It is housed in an Edwardian building dating back to 1913 that previously hosted The Palladium Picture House cinema, live music venue The Ace and more recently the legendary Fridge nightclub. The classic building style is home to state-of-the-art technology.

While the Electric Brixton may be better suited to night time events, and perhaps larger crowds, the Thames Rowing Club makes for a picturesque daytime venue. Located on the Thames Embankment in Putney, this unique events space offers stunning views towards Hammersmith and Putney Bridge – the start of London’s historic boat race. All of this can be admired from the venue’s private balcony. The Great Hall lives up to its name and the Fairbairn Room offers a quieter, more intimate space.

Dulwich Picture Gallery

If you want to ensure there are great views, night or day, how about Dulwich Picture Gallery? This historic venue was the world’s first ever purpose-built picture gallery. It was built in 1811 and remains a vibrant cultural hub today. It also makes for a thought-provoking and classic backdrop to any event. It boasts a range of entertaining spaces, such as the theatre, holding 160 people, and the Marquee, with a capacity of 500.

Not big enough? Hawker House is one of our favourite venues in London.  This venue is famous for hosting huge food festivals. In the summer months, it can host up to 3,500 people and 2,500 in the winter. The urban warehouse boasts sandpits, trampolines, tiki huts and fire pits, making it an exciting and welcoming space that creates a festival atmosphere.
