Held from 5pm to 10pm between 24th November and 1st January, the Magical Lantern Festival is one of the London’s most stunning festive celebrations.
About Magical Lantern
After two highly successful festivals in 2015 and 2016, this year’s festival will include a spectacular illuminations display at Chiswick House & Gardens in west London. One of Britain’s finest Georgian landmarks, this Roman-inspired Palladian villa is known for its beautiful ceilings and elegant landscaped gardens – where the English Landscape Movement all began.
Opening times
This year, the Magic Lantern festival will be open five days a week – Wednesday to Sunday – and every day during the Christmas holidays (excluding 24th, 25th and 26th Dec), so you’ll have plenty of time to put it on your diary during the festive period.
See the amazing hand-sculpted lanterns, which range from the ‘Ancient city from the Song Dynasty’ to ‘Santa and his Reindeer’s. Take the kids to the fairground, visit Santa’s Grotto, grab a bite to eat, then head to the merchandise marquee where you can find some wonderful souvenirs to take home with you.
Getting to the Magical Lantern
The easiest way to get to here is to take the underground to Turnham Green (District Line), which is approximately 15 minutes away by foot. Please note that there are no parking spaces on site for guests coming here specifically for the festival. However, there is parking on site for guests wishing to visit the gardens during normal opening hours (7am to dusk). Unfortunately, the house is closed during the winter, although you can visit the elegant garden café, an award-winning landmark that was named London Building of the Year in 2011 (open 8:30am to 1 hour before gate closing time)
